I'm back. And hoping to move on to the next lesson this weekend. I finally have some time to focus on learning to code. It's important to do, so I'm going to try to hold myself accountable for staying on top of studying.
Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace. This blog is dedicated to my attempts to learn programming.
There are a few reasons I want to learn how to program. I'd like to know how to program for a hobby, as I have a bunch of ideas for web apps (and mobile apps) that I'd like to hack together. My goal is to understand enough programming to create a complex gallery for my site using the Flickr API. I also do a bit of QA as part of my job, and I know I'd be a lot more useful with at least a basic amount of programming knowledge under my belt. Finally, I'm considering returning to graduate school for HCI / UI at some point down the road, and to do this, I need to know how to program.
I learn best by trial and error, so this blog is here to document my journey to learn how to program, starting Jan 1, 2009. Call it a new years resolution if you must, but I will learn how to program by 2010 2011 :).
Those of you with more experience, feel free to chime in with feedback, and your opinions on which language(s) I should learn, and what books I should buy / sites I should look at to further my education.
